FAQs

Is theater a core part of the Long Lake experience or just an extra?

Theater is a major part of our camp. In addition to music and fine arts, campers can take part in full productions, making it feel like a true theater summer camp experience.

How often do campers get to perform?

We produce more than 30 shows every summer. This means campers can audition for multiple roles and often perform in more than one production, something that sets us apart from many summer theater camps.

Does my child need to audition to join the theater program?

No auditions are required to join the program. Every camper is considered for roles, and casting is based on interest, effort, and fit—not experience.

Can younger kids participate fully in theater activities?

Yes. Campers ages 8 to 16 are all welcome to participate. Roles and rehearsal schedules are adjusted to be age-appropriate and supportive.

Is Long Lake considered a sleepaway theater camp?

Yes. We are a full overnight theater camps program where campers live on site and engage in daily rehearsals and shows.

What’s the best time to register for theater camps in the summer of 2026?

Presently all sessions are accepting campers ages 8 to 16. We look forward to connecting with you soon.

Summer Theater Camp vs. Regular Camp: What’s the Difference?

A summer theater camp focuses specifically on the performing arts, acting, singing, dancing, stage design, and production. Campers spend their time learning performance techniques, rehearsing scenes, and preparing for shows. Regular camps, on the other hand, usually offer a broader range of activities such as swimming, sports, and crafts.

What does a typical day look like at your summer theater camp?

typical day starts with warm-up exercises to get everyone energized, followed by acting, voice, or dance workshops led by instructors. After lunch, campers rehearse scenes, songs, or choreography for the end-of-session showcase. Later in the day, they might attend masterclasses on topics like improv, costume design, or stage makeup.

How long are the theater camp sessions?

Theater camp sessions usually run anywhere from one to four weeks, depending on the program. Shorter sessions focus on introducing key performance skills, while longer ones give campers time to develop a full production, from auditions to the final curtain call. Many families choose session lengths based on their child’s experience level or summer schedule flexibility.

Do campers work with professional theater staff?

Yes! Campers are guided and taught by professional actors, directors, choreographers, and technical crew members who bring real-world theater experience into the camp setting. These mentors not only help campers improve their performance skills but also share valuable insights about teamwork, stage presence, and the creative process behind professional productions.
